"Père–Lachaise Cemetery, created by Napoleon, where so many famous people are buried under the majestic trees. In spring and summer, the rose garden of L'Haÿ, in the south of Paris."
Where would you send your mother to shop for a souvenir?
"The flea markets such as Biron [85 rue des Rosiers in St-Ouen] and Serpette [110 rue des Rosiers], to find a little antique piece of porcelain or an engraving."
Where would you send a couple looking for a romantic dinner?
"Mon Vieil Ami, on Île St–Louis, followed by a walk around the island along the Seine" (69 rue St–Louis–en–l'Île; prix fixe, $46).

"Tourists are always being sent to Domus Aurea, but there's nothing to see there. I recommend churches. Rome has three thousand of them—I'm still discovering special ones."
