Bump ups
Slighly more than half of respondents say that they or their company often purchase an economy-class ticket and use frequent-flier miles to upgrade to business class. A third pay for seats in premium-economy or business class and use miles to upgrade to first class.
U.S. Routes
When compared with premium-class cabins on international routes, business/first-class cabins on domestic routes leave business travelers cold. The highest-rated U.S. airline, Continental, receives an overall score of 39.2 versus 70.3 and 70.8, respectively, on transatlantic and trans-
pacific flights (see above).

As for single-class airlines, Midwest narrowly edges out JetBlue, knocking that carrier to No. 2 after two years in the top spot. While JetBlue has an impressive margin of victory in the Amenities/Technology category (overnight kits and seat-back television screens go a long way), Midwest does better on every other criterion. Song, with a strong third-place showing, shut down in May.

U.S. Airports
Years of costly renovations have paid off: Oregon's Portland International takes first prize among domestic airports, thanks to easy access (travelers can reach downtown in 38 minutes by rail, for less than $2 per person), an array of shops (including hometown favorites Nike and Powell Books), and free wireless Internet access throughout the main terminal.

International Airports
Singapore's Changi, with myriad shops and a host of amenities ranging from nap centers to terminals with free Internet access, soars above all other airports worldwide in every category save one. (In terms of Perceived Safety/Security, respondents give the highest scores to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion.)
