Different Strokes

Designer and international gadabout Tinsley Mortimer is a self-described "spa classicist." We update her regimen

"I'm athletic, so I'm often nursing sore muscles or a bad knot, and Swedish massage really does the trick when it comes to sports-related injuries."
Update: We recommend the frequent Vail visitor try out the new RockResorts spa at the Lodge at Vail, penciling in time at its 3,500-square-foot movement studio for rejuvenating yoga, stretch, and Pilates classes (877-528-7625; lodgeatvail.rockresorts.com).

Though Manhattanite Tinsley says she's used to those high heels she's often seen tottering about in at charity balls, we think her dogs might still be barking. Our Rx: the Sea Cal Foot Treatment and Pedicure at the Great Jones Spa. In an hour, feet are soaked in marine botanicals, rubbed with muscle-soothing vetiver and rosemary oils, and slathered in nutritive red algae lotion (212-505-3185; $65).

"My absolute favorite spa is at the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo, since I often travel to Japan on business and I get pretty jet-lagged."
Update: For a change of scenery, we suggest visiting the new ESPA at the Peninsula Tokyo for the Purva Karma Four Hand Synchronized Massage: Two therapists working together apply Ayurvedic herbal oils in a rocking motion to balance and de-stress the client (81-3-6270-2888; tokyo.peninsula.com; 110 minutes, $695).

"My husband and I actually have someone come to our home on a regular basis for massages. It's great 'couple time,' which can be hard to carve out with our busy schedules."
Update: We encourage Tinsley to spirit husband Topper away for a week-end at a spot from her Southern childhood. The Homestead, in Virginia, is rich in mineral springs; a new spa-suite treatment includes two massages, then an afternoon of lolling about à deux while drinking champagne and getting manicures and pedicures (866-354-4653; thehomestead.com; $1,195).

"I've been working with Dior, and the L'Or de Vie line is my favorite. The antioxidants leave skin so supple. Right now there is a face cream (1.5 oz., $374), an eye cream (0.5 oz., $320), and a serum (0.5 oz., $404), but I can't wait for a body version."
Update: Until then, Tinsley could depend on Fresh rice body cream (6.8 oz., $48), the at-home accompaniment to the hidden back rooms of the Fresh store on Manhattan's Upper East Side (1367 Third Ave.; 212-585-3400), where the sake-and-rice body treatment ($185) is a neighborhood secret.
