Las Vegas and the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride Las Vegas and the Seven Deadly Sins: Lust
LOCAL SINNER: Branden Powers
We asked nightclub impresario Branden Powers, owner of Poetry, how to party like a native
What's the best way to get into Poetry on a busy night?
"Don't waste your time standing in line--people who wait in line are 'sheeple.' Find a door host, roll up a twenty-dollar bill per person in your party, and give it to him in a 'Vegas handshake.' This should work every time."
What's the most outrageous request you've ever had?
"On New Year's, we had a guest who wanted to make the roof 'rain' with one hundred thousand dollars in dollar bills. We did it. Another time, someone wanted to buy every bottle in the place--and we sold it to him."
Besides Poetry, what are your favorite clubs here?
"I love dirty rock bars and the old downtown Vegas scene. But anyone coming here should check out Tao, Privé, LAX, and Pure. They're currently
the best Vegas has to offer. If you're from Podunk, Egypt, you'll think they're the most awesome places you've ever experienced since sliced bread and electricity. But I have plans on the drawing board for something that will change nightlife forever, but you're just going to have to wait and see" (Poetry is located at 3500 Las Vegas Blvd. S.; 702-369-4998).
