Wind Spirit
Line: Windstar Cruises
Passengers:148
Itineraries: Caribbean,
Mediterranean
At times, you and your significant other may well feel like you have the entire Wind Spirit to yourself: It's easy to find a few chaise longues on an empty stretch of deck, do some stargazing from the hot tub, or even have the crew hoist you into a crow's nest hammock (romance for the adrenaline set, you might say). The other major advantage of this four-masted schooner is that it sails to remote ports of call; since your ship will likely be the only one in places like Portoferraio, Elba; Virgin Gorda, in the British Virgin Islands; or Koper, Slovenia, it's easy to rent a car to get lost or to do some skinny-dipping on
a deserted beach, without ever bumping into another soul. The Wind Spirit's main restaurant has plenty of tables for two, all set with Riedel stemware and Rosenthal china, and oenophiles can open a special bottle of wine they've picked up in port. Despite traditional touches like wood paneling, you'll find much the same amenities as on more-conventional vessels
a small lounge, a dance club, a spa,
a fitness center. When the ship
anchors near a coral reef, a sports dock drops down at the stern
for scuba diving and snorkeling (800-258-7245; windstarcruises.com; seven-day Athens-Istanbul trip from $5,700).
