Ombudsman: Ticked Off
The airline says that it looked into the situation with the clocks at Palm Beach International and found that the time displayed on the departures monitors did indeed differ from that shown on the computers used by the gate agents. The airline filed a formal grievance with the airport over this discrepancy, and Palm Beach International reports that the problem has since been corrected.
Because of heightened security measures, and to help ensure on-time departures, US Airways changed its check-in policy last June and now requires passengers to arrive at the gate at least 15 minutes prior to departure for a domestic flight, and 30 minutes for international routes. Those who fail to meet these deadlines may forfeit their seats and be ineligible for compensation from the airline.
Ombudsman offers a free service of advice and mediation. Because of the volume of letters we receive, we cannot act in all cases. Letters should be sent to Ombudsman, Condé Nast Traveler, 4 Times Square, New York, New York 10036, and should include documentation and any relevant photographs. Please note that we cannot respond to submissions sent via e-mail. Correspondence must include a daytime telephone number. All submissions become the property of Condé Nast Traveler and will not be returned; submissions may be edited and may be published or otherwise used in any medium.
