Word of Mouth: Past Perfected

The ever-expanding Phoenix area may sprawl with new construction, but two upcoming hotels have some serious history. Later this year, the Hotel Valley Ho—once host to Bing Crosby, Janet Leigh, and Natalie Wood—will reopen with a Trader Vic's and a hip Palm Springs/early Vegas look (480-945-6321; www.hotelvalleyho.com; doubles, $125-$225). Another old-timer, Paradise Valley's La Posada, is transforming into the Southern Spain-themed Andalusian, to open in winter 2006 (phone number and rates not available at press time).
