How Much This Trip Will Cost
Some of you have asked about how much this whole thing is costing Conde Nast Traveler.
As much as I'd like to tell you, the first in line to receive that weighty bit of news is my editor. And I was hoping to soften him up with two or three--or twelve--gin and tonics before dropping the figure on him. Im also considering converting it into a stronger currency to make the final tally seem less big. Is anything trading higher than the pound these days?

I am not sure which currency works best for your purposes. I would suggest that perhaps you translate everything into a currency that makes to total so large, your editor will be too overwhealmed. Here are a few (expressed in number per US$):
Malawi Kwacha: 137.55
Albanian Lek: 92.875
Belarus Ruble: 2144.5
Comoros Franc: 362.9
Ghanian Cedi: 9370
Guinea Franc: 3646
Indonesian Rupiah: 9093
Iran Rial: 9255

I just found your blog last week and have been enjoying it greatly. I work and soon will live just South of Valencia on Market in San Francisco. Had I read your blog earlier I would have given an invitation to show you around. There are some great places to go around here to eat and drink. You just need a real local to show you where to go. We aren't all just your shallow typical Americans.
Anyway I'm sorry you had such a dim view of San Francisco and hope you take the opportunity to experience it a little bit more.
Have you ever had Burmese food? There's a great place out by Golden Gate Park that is absolutely delicious.
Keep the blogs up. I'm waiting to hear where you are now and what is happening.
Best of luck. I hope you stop by Paris and say hello for me. --pplayer
