Moscow Restaurant Suggestions
I'm close to wrapping up my trip here in Mongolia. The next stop will be Moscow where I will spend four days. If you have any suggestions on where to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, please let me know. Something old school, preferably--I can get fusion and minimalistic and all that stuff back home. I'm looking for borscht and blinys and caviar.

Hello! I've been avidly reading your blog. We couldn't help with horseback riding in Mongolia, but I can definitely give you some suggestions for "traditional" food in Moscow. A Moscow institution is Pushkin - blini, caviar, pelmeny (yummy dumplings) and more. Try to get seated on the 2nd floor. Central Writers House has somewhat the same vibe.
One of my personal favorites (if you trip won't take you through Georgia) is Genatsvale. This Georgian restaurant has two locations and delicious and hearty food. Lots of grilled meats, delicious bread, excellent soups. Don't miss it for a big lunch or dinner. Also, don't forget to order a bottle of Georgian wine!
Best Wishes for the rest of your journey!

Try Yolki Polki. It is traditional Russian food including borscht and kvas. Also, if you are looking for a real Russian food experience try some of the markets that are outside of the metros. Most of the food is traditional and it is homemade and extremely inexepensive. Also it is way better than any of the restaurants that I went to there. Try to stay away from the restaurants that are in tourist areas of Moscow (Tverskaya, Stari Arbat, Novi Arbat. They tend to be overpriced and are geared more to the American pallet.

Shameless plug. You should check our 2007 Moscow Hot Tables: Ju-Ju and Nabi (concierge.com/bestof/hotlist/2007/tables/europe/).
