What's going on in this picture? Is it a street performance? A circus act? A political protest?

Dream Trip entrant svezina captured this fiery image during a New Year's Eve celebration on the Caribbean island of Bequia, and describes the serendipity of arriving on the scene in the entry entitled "Light My Fire."

"In 2004, my husband and I went to Bequia, a small island in the Grenadines, to celebrate New Year's Eve," writes svezina. "We arrived on the island just before midnight and barely had enough time to drop our stuff off at our guest house before making our way to the beach. When we arrived, we were amazed by how many people had gathered to ring in the New Year. At the stroke of midnight a girl near us lit a flare and held it over her head. It was a spectacular scene. The red glow was all you could see, and you could feel the heat from the fire. I was glad I remembered to bring my camera that night."
