For Condé Nast Traveler's March fashion feature, "The Distant Shore," our fashion department traveled to Broome, Australia. Closer to Singapore than to Sydney, cinema-worthy Broome is where Orient meets Outback. The Daily Traveler sat down with Associate Style and Accessories Editor Tiffany Gifford to discuss the trip.
DT: Why Broome?
Tiffany Gifford: We had planned on going to India, but changed the shoot at the last minute when violence broke out there. Our photographer was held hostage in a Mumbai hotel and, when she fled, her equipment, money, and Australian passport were all left there. She only had a temporary passport, so we went to her. It worked out beautifully; the Kimberley region of western Australia is breathtaking. It ended up being the perfect backdrop for our story, which we had to completely change in a matter of days!
