Slide Show and Tell

Travelogue or baby brag book? Mark Schatzker's new slide show is a little bit of both.

By Katherine Hottinger

Yesterday on my way to the coffee machine down the hall from my office, I bumped into the peripatetic Mark Schatzker, food and travel writer and blogger extraordinaire, who's just back from his trip around the world. Mark's been posting daily accounts of his circumnavigation on his 80 Days or Bust blog, where he's been regaling us with his attempt to make it from Red Hook, Brooklyn, to -- among other stops -- Mongolia, Ukraine, Italy, England, and back again, traveling no faster than 100 mph.

Never mind the highlights of his trip; what I, a fellow new parent, wanted to know was how he coped with his nearly two-month-long absence from now-seven-month-old Greta and his lovely wife, Laura. As well as one would imagine, I learned, with much homesickness and longing -- and joy now that the family is blissfully reunited in Brooklyn. I had to ask: Did Mark have any new photos to share of his little one?

Turns out Mark has plenty of pictures, and not just the kind only a new mother could love. Our sister site, Concierge.com, has just launched a slide show of Mark's entire journey, including the leg where Laura and Greta joined Mark on a slow boat, or luxury cruise ship, to China. Click through the shots, and read his blog entries, for a look at one seriously cute baby, and for ideas for some far-flung journeys -- or for some serious travel envy -- of your own.
