WHERE'S WENDY? Round 6

by Wendy Perrin

Wendy Perrin tips you off as to her exact location by showing both ends of the street she's on.
Here I'm in the middle of a street looking in one direction.

Wendy Perrin tips you off as to her exact location by showing both ends of the street she's on.
And here I am on the same street, looking in the opposite direction.

One more clue:

This nearby square should make the guessing game just a little easier.
And this is a square nearby.

Where am I? Please name the city and street (in the top two photos).

Sorry about the second-page-not-loading screw-up with yesterday's post. Hopefully the office can get it fixed so I can comment on who guessed the right cabin. The screw-up is probably attributable to all the headaches I had on the ship trying to post photos on the blog, what with the on-and-off shipboard satellite Internet access and, I guess, the bandwidth necessary for posting photos on TypePad. Now that I'm on land, hopefully all my connectivity headaches are over!

Comments

Calle de Funerracal Madrid
2nd of May Memorial

ok if spelling counts
Calle de Fuencarral

Lightning speed Lorib! I was still trying to zoom photos.

revised guess -
Calle de Preciados
also shopping area

lisbon, portugal, Rossio, Don Pedro IV square

I guess it won't hurt to throw out a guess, because I admit, I'm stumped.

So there you did it Wendy, you stumped me.

I'll say it's Calle de Hortaleza, Madrid, Spain.

lisbon, portugal, rua de plaza

Ah ha! I think it's Calle de Alfonso, because that's the Cathedral of the Pilar (Nuestra Senora del Pilar).

You're in Zaragoza, Spain.

"Calle de Alfonso I" is how it's marked on the maps.

lisbon, portugal, Rua dos Faquieros

lisbon, portugal, Rua Augusta

The Plaza is "Plaza de Espana"

lisbon, portugal, rua da Prata

Tracker you are unbelievable! I got the store, but got my head stuck in Madrid.

and travelergwen, keep guessing! Tracker knows I am wrong more often than right, so she keeps working it. : 0)

You know, there are street lamps like that in Madrid. So, I can see why you might think it was Madrid.

And my, how I love Europe. It's just absolutely gorgeous. Okay, now I have to go to that church. And take a picture.

It was actually the monument that got me on the wrong track. But I had a feeling that the store locations I was guessing were on streets that were not pedestrian friendly.

and although I have been around Europe, I haven't been to Spain, so darn it anyways. The Caribbean trip was easier as I have been all over those islands : 0)

LoriB: Well, then if she goes elsewhere in Europe, you might just have an advantage over me.

I've only been to England, once four years ago. It took me an entire year to save for the trip. My sister and I roughed it, slept at hostels that had 20 people to a room, took buses everywhere with a student discount, ate at fish n' chips counters, and had one heck of a time.

I've never been anywhere else really. One of these days though...

I am going to England again, in October (just four months away!). Hopefully this time I won't be roughing it so much. Then later, France is high on my list of places to go. After that, I might have to hit Spain. It looks really nice.

Britian is great, and so much fun to explore. Such pretty countryside.

I have a hunch Wendy will be staying in the Spain/Portugal region, but then France is not too far away.

I just discovered this part of the site & am curious as to HOW all of you know what to guess as to Wendy's location!!! I have not traveled hardly at all so would love just a little insight to this process since it looks like fun.

Much thanks,
Sue

It helps to start the process at the beginning, but we just try to look at the visual clues and go from there. For me today it was the name of a shop in the picture. The I looked up the addresses. But I got stuck on the picture of the monument and got sidetracked in the wrong city, whereas Tracker kept focus on the different cities that store was in until she found a picture of the street that matched Wendy's picture. Try Google images or Yahoo or Ask, and sometimes you get lucky and find it!

It is a fun game, so join us.

BTW, it's a good thing I got up extra early this morning to go to the gym. It was 6am my time when she posted this!

Hey guys,
Well, Tracker's done it again. I was indeed in Zaragoza, Spain, this morning, on Calle de Alfonso I.
Love Zaragoza's wide boulevards and relaxing pace of life. Too bad I couldn't stay longer.
Wendy

Yeah darn that Tracker LOL.

Isn't it WAY past your bedtime there??

spanish time - add about 4 hours

Yay!

Spanish time where I am is 7+ hours. What is it, like 2:30 in the morning!

Only 1 AM when she posted. I guess that is not so bad if dinner doesn't start until 10 PM. Hope she enjoyed her Tapas and Rioja. Hey that can be my guess when she asks us what she ate and drank. : 0)

Hehe...yeah. I think Spanish food looks good. I was looking at some dishes online a few days ago and absolutely wanted to go there just to get something to eat!

sorry I meant everything happens 4 hours later in Spain (eg dinner at 11pm)

tracker - last year I did just that, go half way around the world (literally) to Spain for a nice feed in good company

TheGlobalTraveller, that sounds like fun!
