WHERE'S WENDY? Round 9

by Wendy Perrin

At the entrance to the Spanish town of Laguardia hangs this sign:

This sign hangs at the entrance to the town of Laguardia in Spain's La Rioja wine country. It reads, "Peace to those who arrive. Health to those who live here. Happiness to those who leave."

When you last heard from me I was in the charming village of Laguardia, but of course I've moved on from there.  Can you guess where I am?  Here are your clues:

Wendy Perrin expects you to deduce her location in Spain from this stretch of highway.

This truck is driving on a road that leads to . . .

Do these arches look familiar? They offer another clue to where Wendy is in Spain.

. . . this peaceful spot on a hilltop overlooking a site where . . .

The final hint in this round of Wendy's guessing game: where in Spain can you find a holy room like this?

. . . you will find this holy room.

Where am I?  Guess the road number.  And, if you're a glutton for punishment or you're Tracker1312, you can guess which two towns this stretch of the road lies between.

Comments

I Surrender! This is making my crazy - that picture of the arches looks so familiar! Leaving this up to Tracker : P

I have no clue and really need to get to work.

Um, I'll guess.

You're on the N-120 also marked as LR-313.

I think I may have found where that room is, is it in the Monasterio de Yuso near San Millan de la Cogolla.

But the road? Hmm, there are a lot of roads near there, like the LR-205, the LR-206, LR-331, and the LR-420.

Looks like it would probably be the LR-205 though, that seems the most direct route to this village from where you were coming from.

And to complete this, I'll guess that the stretch of road is between the towns of Badaran and San Millan de la Cogolla.

Just a guess.

And in that case it would be the LR-205.

The picture taken from the hill out of the arch shaped windows, that building you were in was the Monasterio de Suso, which looks out over the valley below to where the Monasterio de Yuso is.

BTW, I'm quite curious, who are the paintings in that room at the Monasterio de Yuso by?

That room is super interesting, they say that the floor is alabaster, so that it reflected the light from the windows, thereby transferring heat to the ceiling, which is good for its preservation.

Unbelieveable! Even when you tell me where they are I can't find anything that looks like her pics.

I did find a site that lists a lot of the places Wendy is visiting, so I may have to use that as a reference for her next clues (like that will help me - LOL)

LoriB, try this:

There are some photos at the bottom of the Sacristy. It was difficult to find.

That is cool. Thanks!

Unbelievable - even on a day when I'm up early (thanks to a OMG o'clock flight), I'm still too late.

Wendy - thanks for reminding me of a nice summer spent wandering around Spain.

All I know is that Tracker has more than earned her name!

ROFLOL LoriB!

Wow, Tracker, you were awfully close: That stretch of road is the L-204 between the towns of Villar de Torre and Ciruena.

You're right that I was in San Millan de la Cogolla yesterday. Those arches that overlook the valley are indeed at the monastery of Suso. And the white baroque room is indeed the Sacristy in the monastery of Yuso. Great job!

You asked about the paintings in the Sacristy. You know, I'm not sure who painted them, but it says here in the brochure I picked up at the monastery that they are Neapolitan canvases from the second half of the 17th century. I can also tell you that many of the paintings throughout the monastery were painted by Juan Ricci, a friar who in the 1650s was "the best of the baroque cloister painters" (so says the brochure).

LoriB, I'm with you: Tracker has more than earned her name.

:D

You know what's weird. On the maps, that road is marked LR-204 *and* LR-206, despite the fact that the road that runs into it just east of Villa de Torre is also marked LR-206 (LR-206 is the one that looks like it goes to the Monastery)...so strange!

I hope you're enjoying Espana!

some (parts of) roads have more than one highway designation

TheGlobalTraveller, that could be confusing! I've seen here in the States where two roads converge and have two (or more) numbers designated for one road, but I didn't realize that in some places two roads so near each other could have the same number.

I probably shouldn't drive there! I'll get lost. I get lost here in the States all the time, I'm always taking the wrong road. LOL
