WHERE'S BROOK? Contest, Final Round


Where am I?

Kudos to JSteele for correctly guessing the location of my Round 5 photo. I was standing in the Finca Rosa Blanca's El Cafetal room; the mural over the bed mimics the view from the room, and is also printed on every bag of organic coffee that the hotel/coffee farm sells. This place has far and away more character than any other hotel I've stayed at in Costa Rica, and I highly recommend it for the first and/or last night of your Costa Rica trip, as it's only 30 minutes from the airport.

Now it's time for the final round of this WHERE'S BROOK? Contest. Take a gander at the photo above. Where am I? Please name the country, city, canopy tour operator, and cable number. And for extra credit, can you guess what was going through my mother's head at the moment this picture was taken?

Remember, the grand prize is an AT&T Samsung Blackjack cell phone and $500 in service. Wendy, your own cell phone was a lifesaver once again: I used it earlier today to call an editor and dictate some story changes over the phone when my Internet connection wasn't working. Wow, hat's off LoriB, although the name of the operator is Costa Rica Sky Adventures. As for the cable, Brook doesn't seem to be going either to or from the big blue tower, which I think is the start/end point. So I would only be able to guess cable's 2-10, of the operator: Costa Rica Sky Adventure's Sky Trek Tour in Monteverde, Costa Rica. As for Brook's mother, if anything relevant was going through her mother's head, she would have to be there at the time. If she is there and can see Brook, she is likely at the platform where the picture was taken. As Brook appears to be going towards the platform, that means her mother would have already completed her cable run. Therefore, she is probably thinking that her daughter is going too fast. That is of course assuming that the picture is not of Brook's mother herself.

I doubt that I am correct - I just had time for a wild guess. And that is still all I have time for now - go to it everyone!

Well really - there are only 7 canopy tour companies in Alajuela, and about 50 throughout the country. And those trees seem to all look the same as you are flying by them - any wonder we can't figure this one out LOL.

Well I'm relieved to have FINALLY stumped you guys! To answer your question, JSteele, you have gotten some elements right, but I'm not going to say which ones...

Chiclets Tree Canopy Tour, Hermosa Beach, Jaco, Costa Rica, Cable 10 or 13 (I have seen listed 11 and 14 platforms, and I still think you are coming to the end, or what the heck cable 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,14 or 15). My best guess for today! Lori B

OK - So are we even in the right country Brook? LOL

I am going to have to conclude this is not the Chiclets canopy tour as they have been using a different kind of harness where you use a glove to slow you down (I suppose that could have recently changed). The tour in the picture has the two handed harness system. I still have to go with the Sky Adventures Sky Canopy tour in Monteverde, but I really can't figure out what cable it is.

You were right, JSteele, that was my mom on the zipline, and she was thinking, "I better remember to spread my legs." That's what the guides instructed us to do as we neared each platform, so that our knees wouldn't hit the cable as we stopped.

It looks like SkyTrek in La Fortuna, CR, cable #4. (great place btw)

You're exactly right, PLS. Good going! But LoriB got the answer first and posted it under my hint. Sounds like you've done this canopy tour -- amazing, isn't it?

Sorry, didn't see the hint. Yes, very amazing, it was the most fun I've ever had while at the same time being petrified. The guides were vert safety conscious too.
