Fares to Hawaii have been so sky-high for the past few months that lots of people gave up on their island vacation plans. Now fares are plunging! Last night I reported on Twitter that roundtrips from New York to Honolulu had dropped to $452 (incl. taxes and fees), starting on Election Day. Then today came roundtrips from Los Angeles to Honolulu for only $244 (incl. taxes and fees) in November and December. Banzai!

The Hawaii market has been so slow since July mainly due to airfare hikes and the demise of Aloha and ATA, that vacation rental owners are offering excellent deals. Holiday homes are still available. One home Absolutely Kapalua (http://www.hawaiihideaways.com/properties/details/8/ABSOLUTELY_KAPALUA) was $2,800 per night for the holidays and is now, $1,900 per night. Owners on Maui are very motivated! Other owners are offering, book 6 nights and receive one night free. One owner on the Big Island offered to purchase airfare for the entire party (our Seascape property). Hawaii tourism has slowed way down. Clients are in excellent bargaining position.

Thank you for this news! I seriously used to check Cheaptickets for Hawaii and was devastated at the $800+ price tag. Less than $500 is unbelievable! Travel fares have definitely dropped across the board. I could take so many trips if I only I didn't to work...sigh.
