Ski Free in Aspen This Winter

Alax-Mountain-base-Aspen-Little-Nell
The base of Colorado's Aspen Mountain, where you can ski right into the Little Nell.

by Julia Bainbridge on Travel Deals

Deal of the Day Would you believe us if we told you that you could go to Aspen and ski for free? It's true: The Little Nell, Aspen's only ski-in/ski-out property, is offering free lift tickets when you stay at least three nights.

That's no small thing: Judging from last year's prices, lift tickets will be $96 per person per day. If you book a room for two people for three nights, you get four free tickets--one ticket per person per day for two days--which saves you $384 total.

And here's the kicker: You can book six nights and get five days' worth of free skiing. That's ten lift tickets included in your room rate. We test-booked a six-night stay from December 1 (when the Little Nell reopens after its $18 million renovation) to December 7. It'll cost you $2,726 for a standard room, including all taxes and fees. At an average of $454 per night, that's not cheap, but it's 26% less than what you would pay otherwise.

More details after the jump.

Book/travel by: Aspen's 2009-2010 ski season begins December 1 and ends April 5, and you can book at any time during that period. We recommend snagging a room from December 1 through December 10, when rates are most affordable. After December 10, nightly rates jump to anywhere from $644 to $932. Blackout dates are December 17-January 2, February 12-15, and the last two weeks of March.

Condé Nast Traveler approved: Our readers have voted The Little Nell onto the Gold List for years and Aspen as one of the Top 20 Ski Resorts.

Note: Even though the deals are dubbed "Ski Free," the Little Nell doesn't discriminate. Snowboarders can ride for free too.

Stay tuned for: More book-our-hotel-and-we'll-give-you-free-lift-tickets deals in the United States and Canada this winter. Wendy's starting to see a number of ski resorts promote packages that provide not only free lift tickets but also a free third or fourth night at off-peak times. Over the next few months we'll be bringing you the best of these deals as we spot them.
