20th Anniversary Dream Trip ContestBurmese girl wears Thanaka make-up

Great Travel Moment In Burma many women and children spread Thanaka paste on their faces to protect the skin. I have also seen men use Thanaka to protect against sun burn when they are working outdoors. In Burma and along the border in Thailand I see Thanaka sold as raw logs (species of Murraya, a small tropical tree) and as a prepared paste. Sometimes the paste is applied on the face in a decorative pattern. Charles Marden Fitch |
