Great Travel Moment It was just before sunset in Namibia, as we road in the bed of a pickup truck down a long and dusty road. Slowly, one by one, cheetahs emerged from the brush in our wake. They would follow us for a brief moment, and then disappeared back into the landscape. The owner of this parcel of land, and the fence which surrounded it, provided a refuge for the local persecuted cheetah population. And it was dinnertime. As we stood in the bed, he chucked hunks of meat to the trailing cats. I caught this image as the largest cheetah took off with the first bit of meat. He brushed by our vehicle and was back off into the wilderness he had come from, two smaller cheetahs chasing him. The whole experience was exhilarating, to say the least! |
