Great Travel Moment The anticipation I felt as the pilot and crew readied the envelope and basket in preparation for my first flight led me to assume that the greatest thrill in hot air ballooning was the flight itself. I never imagined the intensity and sensory overload that I would feel when my balloon and others around it began to inflate with superheated air. Color magically rose up all around and engulfed me as waves of heat washed over - synchonized to the loud flaming rush produced by the propane burners. The sensation was the highlight of my trip to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, and for me this image captured the power of that moment. |
