Great Travel Moment A weaving demonstration in Peru's Sacred Valley included a gathering of a dozen or more women and girls. When not demonstrating a particular technique, they stood together in the background hand spinning on drop spindles. The older women smiled contentedly as they worked, their spindles moving steadily, while the less adept younger women concentrated on their work with furrowed brows. However, the dreamy look and the frequent stillness of this young girl's spindle indicated her thoughts were elsewhere. But not for long. Every time her spindle became still, an older women would quietly hiss at her, pulling her back into the moment. She would then resume her spinning with a slight frown, only to drift off into stillness again. I wonder what she was thinking. |
