"Gooooaaaal!" screamed the anouncer, 30 seconds into the game. The Portsmouth-Fulham soccer game started with a heart-pumping adrenaline rush and never stopped. I was an American visiting London on my birthday and I was living my dream. My favorite team, Portsmouth was playing the big Daddy team, Fulham. Portsmouth needed a miracle to avoid relegation to a lower division of the British premier league. But, scrappy , little Portsmouth had a secret weapon; its fans. From 6 hours away, they came and bought every remaining ticket. They filled the stadium with well-rehearsed songs and deafening chants. The United States player, McBride, tied up the game, but it wasn't enough. Propelled by their fans, Portsmouth felled the giant, Fulham. Ironically, one year later, Fulham is currently in danger of being sent down to a lower division, whereas Portsmouth just beat Manchester United; one of the best teams in the world!
