Great Travel Moment During our many journeys between our home in Alaska and the lower 48 states, my wife and I love to visit unique places in the Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta. We were fortunate enough to come across a special celebration at the'Ksan Native Village and Museum, near Hazelton, British Columbia, for a group of First Nation peoples canoeing down the Bulkley River. They were taking a spiritual voyage in traditional craft with their ultimate goal being Vancouver, B.C. We stayed for the praying, chanting, dancing, and the launching of the canoes. This one masked dancer stopped in front of me and gave me a stare (if one could call that a stare from behind the wooden mask) that went deep into me, causing me to shudder. It was an inner vision that was reflected in all the celebrants around me. |
