One day last June, when touring in Red Square on our trip to adopt our daughter, I saw this large balalaika and remembered the beginning of the movie,"Dr. Zhivago"--when the orphaned Yuri was given a small balalaika as a reminder of his father. It was a moment that I'll never forget--my childhood memories of watching that movie about a place that was so mysterious for so long came full circle, as did the purpose of our trip.
