Great Travel Moment Everyone tells you to beware of altitude sickness when you get to Cuzco and drink coca tea to stave off the effects... this is my first cup in a cafe on the Plaza de Armas... the green, green leaves make a brew that tingles on your lips and does indeed calm your insides... I tried the local custom of chewing the leaves, but I think I'll continue to take mine in steeped form thank you very much! |

Interesting picture. I also had bad altitude sickness, but the leaves they had me drink were dried, so the tea didn't look as pretty. Just a warning to others if you think you might need these in Quito (which is also very high), don't bother taking it with you from Peru as they (the police) consider this VERY BAD in Ecuador. They took us to the police station and held us for 3 hours before deciding we could fly home. We had missed our flight to Lima therefore missing our flight to Toronto.
We had to purchase another flight and seems no one in the industry, our agent, the tour company (which was fully guided from start to the airport) or our insurance company. Bad deal for us and a bad taste in my mouth for Ecuador. Thanks for listening !!! I kinda needed to get this off my chest.
