Great Travel Moment Having suffered through two World Wars, France has no shortage of war memorials, and yet this simple, poignant bas-relief taken somewhere in Provence really caught our eye. There are always widows and children left behind, and the silent, dignified suffering of the maiden tore at my heart strings. I'm ashamed to admit that after I got home, I couldn't remember where exactly in Provence I took the picture. Perhaps it could be the subject of a Conde-Nast TravelerWhere Are You? contest. |
