Great Travel Moment I am born and raised a religious person. I studied theology in undergrad and have taught religious studies among other things for over a decade. I am also (contrary to the stereotype this would evoke) a fun, nightlife loving, urban dwelling, bachelor. I was moved to tears, however, by the grandeur and overwhelming beauty of Big Sur on the California coast along highway 1 south of Carmel. Most Americans think of God as Our Father (or at least abba- daddy as Jesus called"Him") and there was a time, I suppose, that I did too. But I have begun to feel God's presence as female, life giving, embracing: mommy. I have never felt a sense of Praise and Thanksgiving for my Creator God as I did the first time I drove Big Sur. I need to get out of the city more often. |
