Great Travel Moment Standing on a dock, waiting to board a boat leading back across the Rio de la Plata to Buenos Aires, Argentina from Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, I marked this image in my camera as I memorialized in my mind the atmosphere of a experience found only in fairy tales. I was 29 years old and had spent the day, one of my last during a period of college study in South America, exploring this magical city on a bicycle with the most incredible man I had ever met, a man who at the time I thought would disappear as quickly as the sunset, but who has remained by my side ever since. This 17th Century city, a World Heritage Site, transported me physically and emotionally to a time of romance I thought long gone, and restored my belief in the possibility of true happily ever afters. |
