Great Travel Moment This picture was taken at Chasm Lake in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The trailhead is located approximately 9 miles southest of Estes Park, Colorado. The hike begins at 9,400 feet with a 4.5 mile endurance testing elevation change to 11, 760 feet which sits at the base of Long's Peak (shown in the picture to the left) which is at 14, 255 feet elevation. This was my first hike into the Rocky Mountains and even though my heart felt as though it would burst, it survived and the prize at the end of the trail was well worth while. There were waterfalls on the way, two snow fields to cross, and a small boulder field to climb in order to see the lake. I had lunch lakeside, and found the trip down to be much faster. The hike lasted 7 hours, and I would do it again! |
