Great Travel Moment This photo was taken from a hotel terrace overlooking the Amalfi Coast. My wife and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary and her father, sister, brother and brother's wife also ended up coming with us. My father-in-law had not been to Italy since World War II while in the army. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were met by my wife's relatives who had met my father-in-law after WWII in Italy. Only one of the Italians spoke more than broken English and none of us spoke Italian, but my father-in-law got his feelings across by touching his heart and saying that he was "So Happy"! This became the catch phrase of our trip. My wife's father passed away a few years after, but this photo captures a family that despite being separated by an ocean , continues to be proud of their connection, whether it is as Italians related to Americans or Americans related to Italians. |
