Dream Trip 2008: AugustSpontaneous music in our favorite Scottish pub

Great Travel Moment This picture was taken when I was staying in Tarland, Scotland. The village is in Aberdeenshire near the Highlands. The Braemar Highland Games had taken place that rainy day, and my friends and I had come to the pub afterwards for a bit of warmth and cheer. We were celebrating my brother-in-law's 50th birthday when the musicians came to play. (This pub is their local!) Paul, in the middle, started a round of "Happy Birthday" for David, and after the whole pub sang, a very inebriated Scotsman twirled around on his stool and planted a big kiss on David! We all laughed so hard at his surprise we couldn't get a picture! The evening turned into a sharing of talent: I sang a folk song; James danced, and we closed the place down by taking home the old lady who kept falling off her stool. It was a memorable evening. |
