Great Travel Moment In college at UC Berkeley, a bad breakup sent me into a major depression. I enrolled in a study abroad program in Beijing to get away and do some soul searching. I did just that at The Great Wall of China. As I walked along the glorious wall, an old woman approached me selling postcards. I politely declined, but nevertheless she followed me for hours. I was amazed by this woman?s determination to make a few cents. Everything I had been upset about now seemed so trivial. I realized how incredibly lucky I was, and felt at peace for the first time in months. The toothless old woman smiled at me, as if she knew what I was thinking, and agreed with me. It was a defining moment for me, and one that I have never forgotten. I bought her postcards, and returned home fulfilled, happy, and inspired. |
