Great Travel Moment Halong Bay or Vinh Ha Long (in Vietnamese, meaning "Bay of the Descending Dragon") is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located in Quang Ninh Province, 165 kilometers from Hanoi, it is famous for its thousands of limestone mountains. Some proud Vietnamese call Halong bay the "Eight World's wonder". The visitors can sit there and just relax or join in the activities that includes fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, visiting caves and exploring the limestone mountains. It stormed the first day we were there but that did not dampen our spirits. We were able to explore the nearby limestone mountains and caves after the rain let out that afternoon. I specially liked the paddlers in their small boats that went near the cruise boats to sell their merchandise: shells, necklaces, seafood, cigarettes, beverages and snacks. This picture reminds me of the fun weekend I spent at Halong Bay around my birthday. |
