Great Travel Moment For years in my visits to Lake Tahoe, California, there was a place that always caught my eye and my curiousity. Over by South Lake Tahoe is a house called Vikingsholm and was built by a wealthy Lake Tahoe resident, right on the shore of the lake. Attached to the property is an island and the resident's wife built a small house on it and was only for her and close friends for visits. The small house on the island is just a shell now, but for years passing the place, I have always wondered about it. I finally got my chance for the first time in August 2007. The island itself is off limits, but the main house and grounds are open to visitors, as it is owned by the state. The main house is extremely beautiful and detailed and I unfortunately missed out on the tours of the interior, but I did get a closer view of the small house on the island and the picture is of me looking out towards the lake and the house, finally closing the book on one of my childhood mysteries. |
