Great Travel Moment Each morning, as the sun rises, monks and worshipers circumambulate monasteries in Tibet. While there, I rose early each morning and would join with these pilgrims and make the circuits with them. Many would walk and spin the prayer wheels attached to the walls of the monasteries. Others would carry prayer wheels with them and spin them as the walked. Some would spin prayer beads clutched in their hands. The truly devout would take a step or two, prostrate themselves, lay on the ground, get up and repeat this for the duration of the circuit. This photo was taken in front of the Dalai Lama's traditional home, the Potala Palace at the conclusion of a kora pilgrimage. |
