Great Travel Moment There are countless chimpanzees and gorillas every year who are orphaned by the bushmeat trade. A few of the more fortunate ones are rescued to sanctuaries scattered throughout Africa, those sanctuaries intending to behaviourally rehabilitate their charges. Lucy is one such chimpanzee. She is a not as humanized as some of the other chimps - indeed, a little more wild. But like many of those intelligent creatures, she is intrigued by the camera. When shown the photo after it was taken, she simply could not understand how a little ape fit inside the box! |

It's nice to see a photo of a wild creature whose "captivity" is for all the right reasons, and her expression tells you that she knows! Beautiful and moving.

I just love how expressive Lucy's face is in this picture. It is so difficult to capture an animal (no matter how intelligent) on film and you have done it beautifully!
