Great Travel Moment This is a photograph of an elementary school that is positioned 18 miles inland of Cancun, Mexico. In this photograph you see blankets, towels, clothing and an assortment of other personal items hanging from make shift clothes lines and shrubs. This photo is very memorable to me because I am the one who used old telephone wires to make these clothes lines. This was immediately after a solid 72 hour battle with Hurricane Wilma! There were 180 people packed into 6 school rooms measuring approximately 25' x 25'. My room had the most with 48 people. I was one of the first to arrive at the shelter and unfortunately I was also one of the last to leave. For 7 days I slept on a concrete floor with only a thin blanket for padding and a towel to cover up with. I always wanted an extended, all inclusive vacation in Mexico, but not like this! |
