Great Travel Moment I took this photo in the early morning while walking along the shore of south India where the Bay of Bengal meets the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. A sadhu is a renouncer of society who has chosen to pursue a life of meditation and contemplation of god in the aim of achieving liberation (moksha) from the karmic cycle. This sadhu stands on the tip of South India in Kanyakumari only months before the South Asian tsunami decimated the area. In the distance is an island where a temple and statue are devoted to the renowned yogi Vivikananda, whose teachings were highly influential in introducing yoga philosophy to the west. |
