Great Travel Moment I arrived at Lake Louise, Alberta not intending to hike anywhere, but I noticed a trail heading towards the mountains behind the lake. It was a warm spring day, but there was still plenty of snow. I climbed over several avalanche debris fields as the trail gained altitude. Suddenly, I heard and felt a distant rumble. I looked up in fear at the 11,300 foot peak of Mt. LeFroy and saw a huge avalanche cascading thousands of feet down its shear face. The awesome power and enormity of it made me shudder. I excitedly snapped several pictures and then quickly retreated with a new appreciation for the danger represented by the debris fields I had just crossed. |
