Great Travel Moment Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya, or the Smoke that thunders, is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The mist produced by the Zambezi River plummeting over a tremendous gash in the Earth can be seen for 30 miles! This photo, taken during the dry season, reveals the floor of the gorge that will be masked by the falls in a few months as the landscape is transformed by the wet season. For us, it marks the beginning of our African experience and the lessons of life gleamed from this cherished journey: patience as the road leading to the falls is blocked by a stubborn but magnificent elephant; awe inspiring power and beauty; perspective on how small we really are, the insignificance of our daily trifles and the wealth our lives actually contain. Just as Victoria Falls is transformed by seasons, our lives have been altered by the gifts of Africa. |
