Great Travel Moment This photo was taken on a trip that I took with a small group to Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. We had the opportunity to spend the day at one of the largest Monestaries in Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar. These Monks leave there families at a very young age and dedicate their entire lives to the Buddhist religion. Monks in Myanmar have been in the news lately because of the civil unrest in their country. Thousand's of Monks marched through the city of Yangon protesting government policies that are creating financial hardships for their people. On a typical day, the Monks use these black bowls to accept "alms" or offerings from the local people. This is the sole means of eating for these monks. On this day we had the amazing opportunity to feed these monks and try to make a small difference in the lives of those who help so many others. It was a truly amazing experience! |
