Great Travel Moment Notre Dame de Paris Chatedral, May 2007. The church is crowded by the throng of turists. Flashes are lighting the dark vaults, competing with the coloured light that filter from the stained windows. My attention is caught by the votive candles geometrically arranged on a series of shelves. Testimony of faith or pagan ritual? Lights to sustain the hope for a life after death, to pray for a sick loved one or just to thank the Heaven for still being alive? I felt as being able to hear the soft sound of the Checker that moves the pawns on the chessboard of life. |
