Great Travel Moment I was wandering alone on a drizzly day in Baisha, a tiny village outside of Lijiang, China, when I came across a grandfather lovingly carrying is granddaughter on his back. I knew just enough Chinese to tell him that the child was "pyaoliang" (beautiful), and he asked me to take a photo of them and send it to one of the few people in the village who had a computer. This photo is special to me because it reminds me of what I love about Chinese culture - the emphasis on the closeness of family and the way generations are inextricably tied to each other. |
