Great Travel Moment After graduating college, I packed up my car and drove across country, unsure of what to expect. Three months later, I have floated in a hot air balloon in Albuquerque, photographed Mount Rushmore, watched the sunset over the Grand Canyon and visited our country's most mysterious prison, Alcatraz. This photo was taken in the basement of Alcatraz. The loneliness of this picture personifies the entire island. Small bursts of light give hope in this dark alley. Prisoners had a stunning view of San Francisco through the slots in the prison walls; on holidays they could hear people celebrating in the city. It was said these were their most depressing days. This picture is extremely important to me because it represents the light and dark history of one of our national treasures. |
