Great Travel Moment My wife and I have traveled to Paris numerous times but always marvel at how easy it is to find a completely unexpected experience in this most dynamic city. Last May, looking for something slow paced and relaxing, we took a canal cruise through the 3rd and 10th arrondissements. In the midst of losing myself in the shady canopy above, these bright pink bikes caught my eye (as they were intended to do). As we moved further toward the basin de la Villette, my attention was called past the trendy (though beautiful) canal St- Martin to see a dynamic neighborhood in transition. I recognized familiar challenges we face with urban development and how to balance honoring and preserving the past while making the present livable. This picture reminds me of that day and the working and living city that exists behind the grandeur of the famous Paris. |
