Dream Trip 2008: SeptemberNegotiating the Purchase of a Souvenir- Petra, Jordan

Great Travel Moment The locals constantly approached us to sell all kinds of things- postcards, horse ride, camel ride, coins, rocks, etc. We have learned to say "Lo, Shukran" (No, thanks). Eventually, we learned to ignore the pushy ones. This man approached my travel friend, Dennis. He got Dennis' attention. He collect knives and this, of course, was a unique one. After a short negotiation, the knife was bought. I knew from the very start that Dennis would not let it go! Both the seller and the buyer were happy. This was a very memorable trip! |

Thanks, TMWheeler. Yes, the haggling was so much like India. It was the best part, I think.

If haggling in Petra was anything like Mumbai I'm sure you had your work cut out for you. What a wonderful cultural exchange.
