Dream Trip 2008: SeptemberOikogeneia mou, Hara Mou (My Family, My Joy)

Great Travel Moment We were visiting my husband's family in Greece, in a small town called Pefkofito, located high in the mountains in central Greece. His Pappou (grandfather) owns the magazi, a store where the locals go to get a frappe or glass of ouzo and play cards or just catch up on town news. This picture is in front of the store, with my sister in law, our daughter's godfather, my husband with our daughter and his cousin. The whole family had gathered together to celebrate our daughter's first birthday. It was a bittersweet night as we were leaving the next day to return home, and our daughter had found such love and joy within his family. This picture represents the importance of family, the bond that we have despite being thousands of miles apart, and to honor the history and stories that bring us all together. |
