Dream Trip 2008: SeptemberVictoria Henry Stravinsky Fountain

Great Travel Moment Under grey skies, we set out through the Marais to the Centre Georges Pompidou with our son Henry, 6. Stopping in a lovely hat shop, my son picked out the silliest chapeaux for me - plastic with neon cutout daisies. With the goofy hat on my head, and a thunderstorm brewing, we captured our little outing in front of the whimsical Stravinsky Fountain. Just as my husband snapped the photo, the skies opened, rain poured down, and my hat flew off - into the fountain - in a gust of wind. My son was upset, until his daddy - in the joie de vivre spirit of Paris - took off his shoes, rolled up his pants and waded into the fountain to get mommy's hat. Henry and I cheered him from the sidelines (and under cover next to the museum), laughing hysterically. That moment defines our 25th anniversary trip to Paris, the beauty of the old and the new in the photo, and our family's silliness and utter delight at being together in the City of Light. |
