Great Travel Moment Sometimes called "The Jerusalem of the Aegean", Patmos is a must see Greek Island. Our excursion off of our cruise ship allowed us several hours, but we soon discovered that would not be enough time to spend on this amazingly beautiful and historic island. After seeing The Monastery of St. John, we wanted to spend more time discovering the many surprises it had to offer. Founded in the 11th century, the monastery resembles a medieval fort, and there are many chapels and frescoes that detail the life of St. John. We meandered through lovely courtyards and climbed steep stairways to gaze at the breathtaking scenery from roof terraces. Just as we entered rounded a corner, I snapped this picture of one of the monks. |
