Great Travel Moment On our first night in Rome, three of my Latin classmates and I were left on our own. Despite our teacher's command that we stay in the hotel, we decided to go out to see some sites. After about 10 minutes, we turned a corner and could see the Colosseum, faintly lit, at the end of a long street. We all got anxious and sped up as we got closer and closer. I remember being astounded as the entire monument came into view and feeling disappointed when we finally had to turn back. The next morning, the entire class went for our official tour of the Colosseum, and I most distinctly remember feeling giddy at having seen it before everyone else. It was as if I had snuck out of my room on Christmas Eve to peek at a present and re-wrap it, and my family had no idea. |
